Debbi is a senior lecturer and Interim Head of Department of Public Health and Epidemiology at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. She is an experienced public health researcher with over twenty-five years as a public health academic and has published widely on the subject of inequalities in health, specialising in using mixed methods. Debbi was Director of Widening Participation for a number of years, responsible for developing institution level strategy and supervising research with young people (16 to 18 years) in the most deprived areas of Merseyside, seeking to promote educational opportunities and access to higher education for the most disadvantaged groups.

Debbi continues her collaborations with colleagues at the University of Liverpool, the University of Nottingham, and the University of Malawi through her participatory research in Sub Saharan Africa. In relation to the Teenpath Covid project, Debbi is Shona’s supervisor and is responsible for two of the four work packages in the overarching TeenPath project, one focusing on health behaviours, and one on translating findings for policy and education.
